The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been hosting the IPL Fantasy League, a fantasy gaming application for cricket enthusiasts worldwide. This immersive gamification experience allows users to create their dream teams, with players from various IPL teams assigned virtual values. The league offers both daily and seasonal formats, attracting millions of cricket fans during the IPL season.
The Challenge
During peak hours, the IPL Fantasy website had to handle an immense volume of requests, which created challenges in the previous edition. Millions of users needed to be accommodated efficiently on the platform.
The user interface needed major enhancements, and the web pages needed to be optimized for extraordinarily high loads and real-time score tracking. In addition to individual user leaderboards, the platform also featured group leaderboards, each with hundreds of members. Real-time leaderboard updates for individuals and groups were critical to the platform's functionality..
Cartoon Mango tackled these challenges by optimizing the platform for high-traffic scenarios and ensuring seamless performance even during peak times.In addition to improving the user interface, we implemented advanced technologies for tracking scores in real-time and updating leaderboards in real-time.
The Approach
In partnership with our client, we developed the framework for India's leading fantasy cricket platform. Each element of the process was meticulously designed to ensure the platform's scalability at all times.
To accommodate increased traffic volumes, we used a serverless approach that enabled us to concentrate on the business logic and architecture of our design. For real-time leaderboard updates, we employed the Spark engine to process user squad data and compute leaderboards instantly based on live match information.
A key aspect of Cartoon Mango's development process was its UI/UX design. We worked with a team of experienced designers to create an intuitive, user-friendly interface tailored to cricket enthusiasts. For the web and mobile applications, we conducted extensive research, user testing, and iterative design to ensure that the user experience is seamless and enjoyable.

The Impact

In contrast to previous IPL seasons, the platform retained users throughout the season.
There were no instances of downtime or difficulties experienced. Our efforts resulted in a 1.5X increase in users, with many new users expressing appreciation for the digital experience provided.
